Fun fact: NASA can predict exactly where a solar eclipse’s shadow will fall years before it happens. The next total solar eclipse in the U.S. won’t happen again until 2044! 
That black circle isn’t a hole — it’s the Moon’s shadow.
This real photo was taken from the International Space Station on April 8, 2024.
On that day, the Moon passed in front of the Sun and blocked its light over parts of Canada and the U.S. — including Quebec, New Brunswick, and Maine.
People standing inside that shadow saw day turn into night for a few minutes.
This is called a total solar eclipse.
The shadow moved fast — over 1,500 mph! Astronauts on the ISS watched it race across the Earth from 250 miles above.
